2/11/2006....Before I pass through this world, I believe that it may be a good thing to leave something behind for all my friends and family. I may live another 20 years or I may go tomorrow, but while I'm still here, this photo essay will be a continual work in progress, containing mostly my own personal photographs of myself, family, friends, and places that have found a special place in my heart and made an impact on my life.

TCHS 50th yr reunion : The TCHS 50 Year Class Reunion was held on OCT 4, 2008 at the Lakes of Taylor Golf and Country Club. It was a combo reunion with the classes of 57,58, and 59. The dinner was exceptional as were the friends and classmates. I am understanding that there will possibly be a reunion of our class again on the official anniversary year of 2010.....more info will follow as it develops. The following pics were taken by myself at the reunion, followed by the senior yearbook photos of the attendees. If you notice errors in names or have comments, feel free to click the comments tab at the page bottom. As always, for a larger view of individual pics, move your cursor to the right of the picture and choose your desired size. If you have pics of your own to include here, e-mail or snail-mail them to me and they will certainly be included. I had the following day at leisure prior to flying home and visited the Henry Ford Museum at Greenfield Village. USS Sampson DDG-10 Reunion 2007 : May 17,18,19, 2007. Days to live in infamy. Past shipmates of the USS Sampson DDG-10 (now scrapped), met in St. Pete Beach, Fl for a reunion to celebrate days past. Our host, Dale and Joyce Ann Hughes hosted the picnic and re-christening of "SAM", the original motor whaleboat of the Sampson, painstakingly restored by Dale and family....a 2.5 year labor of love. A great time was had by all. These photos were taken to celebrate this grand event. Saturday evening, a Luau was held at the Dolphin Resort Hotel and those photos were uploaded as well. The next reunion is planned for the Spring of 2008 in Myrtle Beach, SC. Come join us for another great time. The USS Sampson DDG-10 motor whaleboat : I had the opportunity, this past week-end, to see and touch REAL history. I visited with friend Dale Hughes, who has painstakingly restored the motor whaleboat of the USS Sampson, DDG-10, on which we both had served as young sailors in the early sixties. Dale, with the help of his lovely wife, some friends and family members, embarked on a 2 ½ year labor of love, to bring it back from the brink of destruction, and return it to the beautiful and operating boat that it once had been . A reunion of former Sampson shipmates is upcoming, and this boat will carry members over the waves again as it had so proudly done in years past. Kudos to Dale and his team on this restoration project, and bringing back to us all the great memories of those years gone by! This is a rare opportunity for former shipmates of the Sampson to take part in a memorable event.

Modeling the USS Sampson in 1/700 scale : I served aboard the USS Sampson in 1963. She was of the Charles F. Adams Class of guided missile destroyer commissioned in June 1961 and decommissioned in June 1991. In keeping with the upcoming reunion of Sampson shipmates, I decided to model this ship in the popular 1/700 scale, and chronicle the steps taken to a finished product.

Atlanta Model Figure Show : Held over the week-end of 2/24/2007, the Atlanta Model Figure Show was attended by Pelikan members Robert Raver, Robert Marquinez, Robert Semler, Eddie Robert (myself, acting as an honorary Robert), Ed Brut and Joe Bivona. Held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Marietta, this show was truly an inspiring sight to behold. Several photos not seen here had to be discarded due to the out-of-focus image caused by low light no flash camera shake, but this is good representation of the fine quality to be found in the show entries. Bishop's Cottage : Bishop’s Cottage on Grosse Ile was built in 1886 as the summer home of an Episcopal Reverend who eventually raised a family of seven in the Bavarian inspired house. It has been a historical icon of Grosse Ile Island since then, known for its location along the water and its distinctive period architecture. The structure was renovated for Bed and Breakfast use by current owners Katherine and Verne Brockmiller. The restoration is as splendid as it is authentic with delightful still lifes found throughout the house and especially in the huge 800 square foot parlor area. This is a magnificent destination B&B.....Judi and I stayed here for the APHS reunion, and whenever else the opportunity arises. If you're in the area....treat yourself.

American Airlines-Tampa : Between 1984 and my official retirement in 1995, (unofficially, my last year was 1990 due to a dissability as a result of heart complications), I finished out my career at Tampa International Airport. This category of photos were taken during this period, most of which were taken during a single function celebrating the retirement of friend and co-worker Roy Burns. The photos were scanned from negatives that had been somewhat degraded over the years but I have managed to bring them back to at least viewable condition. Sighting privacy issues, only first names will be used. Thank you SUSAN, and ELEANOR for helping to identify the unnamed celebrities.
